The opening is taut and full of suspense, how did the Doctor end up in an operating theatre strapped down and helpless? Who is this strange surgeon, why is she bring operated on? The shock and realisation that she is totally helpless, but knows and understands what may be about to happen is horrific.
She bravely engages with her captor and tries to reason and understand what his motives are and persuade him to release her. When she realises what he is about to do, and she is powerless to stop him, and the anesthetiser kicks in she believes all is lost.
On waking up and being told by hospital colleagues, a detective and Forensic Doctor, that she knows that she is OK, No one believes her, is this an hallucination, what is going on. This taster is well written, the main character is believable and the reader is keen to read more please!!
