As a great believer in the therapeutic benefits of mindfulness I think it's great that Emma Drage has written Down The Sleepy River to introduce mindfulness to young children. Learning breathing techniques at an early age is undoubtedly extremely beneficial. The wording is concise and easily understood plus it's a terrific boon to parents and carers with a child who has difficulty getting off to sleep. The author takes children on an adventure to meet a range of animals and birds; a lion, parrot, monkey, leopard, elephant, giraffe, rhinoceros, seal, turtle and whale, each one breathing evenly and deeply. The illustrations by Carmen Saldana are beautifully done and children will love picking out the details. I'm planning to pass Down The Sleepy River to my three year old great nephew and hope that he, and his parents, will find it helpful.
