An emotional read!

Initially, I struggled to get into this but it turned out to be a heartbreakingly wonderful read.
Every Note Played follows a famous pianist who is, sadly, developing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) - a fatal motor neuron disease. ALS is a brutal disease and I loved how Genova depicted it. Experiencing it through Richard's POV was tough yet raw and realistic. The relationship dynamics surprised me as they weren't just sympathetic and caring. Instead, they were much more complex and I thought the conflicted emotions felt by Karina were harrowing and true to life. I'm not fond of books that are written with the intention of manipulating you into crying. It makes the story feel forced and, in a way, false. Fortunately, this wasn't the case here. Genova simply wrote a story about characters who are living in terrible circumstances but without the emotional manipulation of the reader.
An emotional read but it was really good!
