This book was absolutely beautiful and also very educational which I am grateful for. I didn't really know much about ALS before reading this book but I knew of it. I had watched The Theory of Everything and while on that subject, I cried whenever Stephen Hawking was mentioned. This book was published and then he passed not long after. Lou Gehrig was referred to in past tense and Hawking in present, which I think is what made me emotional. If I had read this book before he passed, I don't think I would have cried when he was mentioned.

I found this story absolutely beautiful and tried so hard to suppress the tears, but, as you already know, that did not happen. Much like Me Before You, this book had me up late and crying at god knows what hours of the morning. I love how Genova didn't sugar coat anything in this book, just gave it to us straight and narrow with no filter. She didn't-I want to say galmourise, but I know that isn't the right word- but I hope you know what I mean. She wrote this book with no barrier and made me feel like I was learning about something that affects so many people in the world and for that, I am grateful.

I am not sure if she has had experience with someone with ALS or she is just a really good researcher, but this book was golden from start to finish. I love how the main character, Richard, had no choice but to give up on his dream and completely abandon his career because of his diagnosis. Also, I loved how he had no choice but to reconnect with Karina, as she is the only one who was around and available to help him.

Overall, I appreciate Lisa Genova for writing this book, it is beautiful. This was the first book by her that I have read, and I am eager to read more in the future.
