I have never read a Karen Slaughter book but i know several people, including authors I enjoy, who rate her highly, so I was interested to read one. At first i found the opening chapter very tense, but also compelling. I did fear that Callie would snap and hurt her son, but then when the violence against Callie started, I found it very full on even though I don't consider that I am highly sensitive. I'm sure the book will be enjoyable to those who lie a good thriller, but there is enough violence against women in the daily news, that i really don't want to read it for pleasure.
