I love Karin Slaughter. I only discovered her work last year, and read all ten Will Trents, all the Grant Counties, and a few standalones in quick succession. She is an excellent writer, with an eye for the gruesome and the grim without being salacious, and a thoroughly engaging style of writing which has me guessing at twists, turns, and abusers at every turn of the page.
This, her newest, standalone novel, starts with an explosive situation, laying out a beleaguered narrator, a bratty child, an abusive, overpowering man, and a seedy underbelly of exploitation and greed that will have rippling effects throughout the novel. This is the setup for a main plot which takes place more than 20 years later, and I am more than excited to see where this seedy tale of child exploitation and abuse will end up.
