I found the first half of the book hard going. Be warned that some of the content is disturbing. Some of the revelations were overly drawn out, going over the same details several times.
The pace picks up into the second half of the book with some thrilling plot twists and moments you absolutely don’t see coming. The writing is excellent and you become incredibly attached to the characters, feeling their anguish.
The author has decided to tie the story to a very specific time in the Covid pandemic. This doesn’t really add anything to the plot, and already feels uncomfortable. In such a fast moving moment in history, what is “normal” is changing daily.
