I’d like to start this by thanking the team at Readers First for sending me a copy. It’s always been a dream of mine to read a pre-proofed copy of a book, and for it to have come true with Karin Slaughter’s name on the front is just breathtaking. So thank you!

False Witness is, what I can only describe as, THE thriller of 2021. When Callie’s childhood is turned upside down when her boss starts taking advantage of her at a young age, she didn’t think it could get any worse. Mistaking abuse for love, Callie finds herself in a dangerous situation that forces her, and her sister, Leigh, to take matters into their own hands. Skip ahead a few years, and the girls are living different lives. Callie has fallen down a life of drugs, whilst Leigh is battling court cases as a lawyer. Living in the shadow of what they did all those years ago, the two are forced to relive those horrifying moments when Leigh’s new client is the son of her sisters abuser. And the worst part is, he knows exactly what happened to his dad...

Karin Slaughter always delivers a gripping thriller from start to finish and False Witness was no exception. From the moment I picked it up, I was hooked. If life hadn’t of gotten in the way, this would have definitely been finished in a day or two. It’s THAT good.

It’s one of those thrillers that makes you question everyone. There’s shocks and twists around every corner, there’s dark secrets revealed within the tiniest bits of dialogue. And the ending was heartbreakingly haunting.

I’d also like to say how strangely refreshing it was, to read a book that also took place during Covid-times. To hear characters complain about masks, read characters adjusting their masks and talking about vaccines was a great way to keep me immersed.

I’d recommend this to anyone who needs a good read this summer. This is definitely the book of 2021 for me.
