This story revolves around Leigh Collier who works as a defence attorney and whilst she appears to have a normal life, she has a dark past and a childhood like no other. The past catches up with her when a case lands on her desk meaning she'll have to defend a wealthy man accused of rape. When she meets this man, she realises that she knows him...

It's a very dark and disturbing book, quite brutal in places and very descriptive of certain topics such as drug use, murder, rape, violence. The story also takes place during the current pandemic so there are lots of references to Covid which may not be to everyone's taste but I personally didn't mind this and felt it was very topical.

I'm ashamed to say I'd never actually read a Karin Slaughter novel before this one! Having finished 'False Witness' I'm very impressed with her writing style and I certainly now look forward to reading more by her in the future. It was a fantastic book and one I feel I'll remember as it was very powerful and thought provoking.
