The past always demands to be revealed, it doesn’t matter how long it has been covered, the truth always needs to go out.
This is the story of Leigh Coulton and her estranged sister Calli, they share a past they don’t want to remember but now, thanks to a high-profile case, Leigh will have to defend the horrible memories from their past that will surface, risking everything they have fought for during these years…
I’ll start saying that this is not an easy read, there are a lot of references to the pandemic we are living and to difficult situations like child abuse, bullying, rape… It will make you think about the society we are living in and how money can buy anything.
I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the read, I am a big fan of the Karin Slaughter books, but this doesn’t mean that she puts the finger on the places that hurt with a difficult vision of our reality and how sometimes we are eager to do anything to keep our secrets hidden.
I liked Leigh, she is a hard-working woman, intelligent and not afraid to fight for her family; but her new client will be a nightmare, not only for her, I couldn’t stand him either; the smirks, how he manipulates all the time and how he plans to get an innocent plea for rape and murder case.
Karin Slaughter has done an amazing portraying the difficult situations Leigh and Calli live, they all have regrets and traumas from the past, but they want to fight to keep what they have now, it will not be easy, full of traps and twists but you can’t keep hoping that they will keep their freedom.
If you are looking for a slow paced story with difficult characters but full of surprises, this is your read, believe me! Are you ready for “False Witness”?
