Karin Slaughter is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I am actually unsure how my review will do this gem justice.

This is completely unique to anything I’ve read previously and we are introduced to Leigh and Callie, two sisters with a somewhat troubled background. The start of the book, gives us as a reader an insight into the relationship between Callie and Buddy. From here- we are taken on a complete journey.

Leigh is a “together” woman- good job, daughter doing well. That is, until she is summoned as she had been requested for a case. This is our first hint that the past is coming back to catch up with Leigh.

We are introduced to a variety of characters, some likeable from the introduction and others you do not trust. Reggie is an interesting one that you don’t quite know how to take. That is until he starts to become involved with members of Leigh’s family.

Slaughter has completely pulled me into the pages of this book and I admit to completely inhaling this over one day. I have been captivated by the plot and completely unable to put this down. I love the dark and gruesome aspect to this- I could picture this being made into a movie.

The characters are a good mix of likeable and loathable. Andrew has been one that I have hated and unable to sympathise with. He is manipulative and extremely conniving.

I am ashamed to say that this is my first read by Karin Slaughter but that is something I will be changing immediately. It’s clear from this novel, I have been missing out. I have loved the racy plot, the twists and turns which have kept me guessing throughout and the writing style hooked me from the very first page.

I adore the cover of this book, it is enough to raise intrigue and make you want to read but doesn’t give away too much at all. This is a book you won’t want to miss.

I can say nothing negative about this deliciously dark and twisty novel. I can’t even complain about the link to Covid as it adds an element of reality. It is one that I will be recommending to everyone.
