This is the first book I’ve read that’s been set in current times but it does a great job of telling the story without being overshadowed by covid but still feeling extremely relevant. This is a chilling story about defence lawyer Leigh who is increasing disturbed by her new client Andrew who is charged with a heinous rape and specifically asked for Leigh to defend him at the last hour. Leigh doesn’t initially recognise him but when he introduces himself she realises he links to a part of her past that’s forever haunted her. She has no reason to believe that Andrew knows the worst details of her life but a few choice comments leave her terrified and obligated.

The characters in this are phenomenal especially Callie and the sympathetic way her life was described deserves much respect. Both Callie and Leigh are broken yet strong and the way they fit in and out of each other’s lives really worked. Andrew is a fabulous villain, really plays with Leigh and the story just flowed so well.
