The author I had not previously heard of but the cover being bright red with a light bulb drew me to it as was an usual choice given the title. From reading the blurb it left me wondering could the bulb have significance in relation to the crime or Leighs past.
The extract has just left me feeling wow and such a twist in expectation. From going to believing she was a wife and mother to then discovering she is in fact a teenager that has being sexually abused and groomed is quite a surprise. Honestly was not expecting that. Coupled with reading how the abuse has come to ahead where Callie no longer able to take it and feeling kill or be killed brutally stabs her abuser. Many a woman has sadly been put in this position where she has had to lash out in self defence against a abusive partner.
As the detective Leigh has yet to be mentioned and the first chapter is from the past, I am wondering whether Callie is in fact Leigh? One to add to the to be read pile!
