Well, this book worked for me; I really enjoyed reading Karin Slaughter's 'False Witness'. It's a well structured thriller, with enough depth to be satisfying and enough drama to hit the pace, drive and drama that a thriller read requires.
But then again, Karin Slaughter should know her stuff by now with over 21 million books sold around the world. I've read a few of her previous books and have enjoyed them.
'False Witness' is a standalone and is the first book I have read that has the backdrop of our current pandemic (although it was referred to a little too often for me).
The central story is a mash-up of events from the past colliding in an awful way with events of the present. We have flawed characters, addiction, abuse and perversions in bucket-loads but to balance it there's a couple of really solid characters that stop the book going too far. I was really emotional towards the end, which demonstrates how invested I became.
I'd recommend this book (but be prepared for tough themes and descriptions)
