When I read a book, it is usually to escape what is currently happening around me. A good, gripping thriller or horror is usually perfect, because while life has its highs and lows I could never compare it to the goings on in one of those stories.

False Witness is a well-written book, and I can see why Karin Slaughter get's a lot of praise for her work. I wouldn't hesitate to read another of her novels. However, the one main gripe for me which ruined this book for me was the involvement of Covid in the story and how it shapes the story. While many will say it is commendable to add a real-world event into a book, I am reading to escape, not be reminded of it. This sadly for me ruined the book, I felt the explanations around mask wearing and social distancing a waste and almost as though it was chucked in to up a word count. If you removed Covid from the book, to me it would have been a perfect thriller with all my usual twists and turns and excitement.
