For what it's worth, this was my first K Slaughter book. I definitely enjoyed it as there was a lot of depth to it but overall quite a few pros and cons. On the pro side it was extremely well written with the author showing a wide range of knowledge about a lot of different things. There were quite a few page-turning scenes and a generous amount of dramatic and emotional high points scattered throughout. The book was also very up to date as it took place during the covid pandemic and mask wearing as well as suffering from the virus got their fair share of mentions. In her short authors note at the end of the book Karin Slaughter actually explains that she tried to incorporate certain parts of 'now' into her stories, another example being the 'me too' movement in Copland. Definitely worth a quick look once you've finished the book. As far as cons go, I personally prefer relatively short chapters and in this book they were quite long. I also feel that the book could have been a bit shorter, especially since it doesn't really feature a variety of moods. Humour, laughter and happiness are mostly absent so going on for so many pages with relatively glum, unpleasant stuff could get a bit... much at times. This is just a personal preference and I'm sure that a lot of people out there will love this. I personally liked it, it had some great ideas and a very high standard of writing. Will definitely looks to read more of her books. Thank you to Readers First for the free copy
