This book is another stand alone by Karin Slaughter that I've read. She is an author I wanted to try but didn't want to start another series so having going for the stand alone books. This copy of False Witness is an arc which I won through Readers First.

This story follows two sisters, Leigh and Callie. Both have had a traumatic past. Leigh is trying to put it behind her with a family and working as an district attorney. Callie however is not doing so well and is a drug user amongst other things. In true thriller form the past is coming back to haunt the sisters.

With Karin Slaughter what I have found so far is that the books are very gritty and raw. Lots of trigger warnings with this one for everything, drug abuse, parental abuse, rape, murder, violence, you name it, its there.

What the author has done also is set the book in our time now. The characters are living through Covid-19. There are plenty references to mask wearing, social distance and everything we have to do now. This is the first book for me where the story is set during this time and I do wonder if it may not be the last. Doing this for me didn't really a add or take away anything from the story just made it feel like now.

I enjoyed the book but there is another book by the author about two sisters which I found a bit similar. I found this book brutal at times but enough storyline to keep my interest.

Thank you to the publisher and Readers First for the copy to read and review.
