I have to admit I struggled with this book. And I haven't finished it.

The main storyline was gripping with little twists and turns at the end of the chapters which had me gasping with surprise.

I found the storytelling gripping and the characters well defined. I really wanted to find out how the story was going to develop and I felt the writing really showed the darker side of human nature.

However, the main problem with the book is the really, what appears to be, arbitrary and constant mention of covid, masks and sanitizer. It didn't seem to add a huge amount to the storyline but from a reader's point of view it was a distraction. I have been reading a lot during the last 16 months to forget about covid, and get away from the barrage of fear/stats/rules so having this as part of the story, made me reluctant to return to the book. Which isn't what you want with a thriller.
