Faruq and the wiri wiri is a lovely story about a boy who wants to learn to cook for his family like his Grandma Ajee does. He is fascinated by the spicy "cherry bomb" wiri wiri peppers that grow in his garden. Ajee wants Faruq to grow up to be a doctor instead of a cook but Faruq has other ideas and with the help of his neighbour Mrs Joseph he starts to learn! Will Ajee change her mind and decide that boys can cook....My son is 4 years and loved this book from our first read. He often cooks with his Grandma and was interested in Faruq's cooking and the cook up rice. We have read the book many many times and he asked his grandparents to read it with him too. We are keen to try baking the Guyanese lime cookies that there is a recipe for in the back of the book. We are really enjoying this book and will look out for similar books from this author. Overall the book is a big hit for us!
