Whilst this is a book for children, as someone from a Guyanese background I found this fun to read. It was great to read with my mum and laugh about the food and the family - all so typical of her life back in Guyana. She loved the fact Guyana, for one thing, was spelt correctly - silly thing but so very very important!
The laughter we shared from reminiscing about all the foods that could be found in the garden gave us both such a precious moment where we could connect and look back. It was truly magical.
The characters are beautifully drawn and help bring the whole story to life. It is so easy to fall in love with Farauq and the other characters, mainly strong motherly figures, in his life. This really is a wonderful book for any youngster who wants to see themselves or their family reflected in the characters of what I believe is a very special book.
