The book itself is beautiful, from its illustrations to how it if printed. I was thrilled to open it when I got it through the post. The front cover is full of colour and is certain to catch the eyes of children.
The book is about Faruq and the Wiri Wiri and is a very endearing children’s book about food and gender expectations. This children’s book takes us to a different country to explore a different place and concept that most children may not have any knowledge of the Guyanese culture.
The book does highlight some gender expectations, but these are minimal and certainly talked about gently
This book, I feel has had some benefit to me, from learning t about a culture I had no knowledge of. It touches on Guyanese food culture and the way that this culture lives. It’s a perfect insight into a world that isn’t common in my area.
