This was a delightful read - I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story but it was a brilliant, vibrant and fun read which my five year old was captivated by. The story is lovely and is a nice change to have a little boy who wants to be a cook rather than having it be a girl. The mixture of language, with some dialogue written as it might sound when spoken with a local accent, was a nice touch. I also particularly enjoyed the recipe at the end for some lime cookies - this is an Easter holiday activity in the making and I’m excited to try them. I think this is a lovely story for early years/ key stage one children and think it might be a good choice for a class read as there’s lots to discuss about family, following interests and kindness. I hope that this book gets the recognition it deserves as it is a hidden gem for children and deserves to do very well!
