There was so much I loved about this book, and I'm not even its target audience being considerably beyond childhood.

The illustrations are absolutely wonderful, full of bright colours and little details that make you linger over each page. Some of my favourites were Mrs Joseph's kitchen, the family big lunch and the pages of ingredients at the beginning and end of the book. I love the Caribbean but I had no idea about Guyanese food but now I do. I also now know what wiri wiri peppers are! I loved the intergenerational element of the story and how it celebrates the passing on of culture and wisdom from old to young. Also the message that cooking is not just for girls. A brilliant book in every respect and I know a little boy who will be overjoyed to receive it now I've finished reading it. I'm hoping his mum or dad will help him make those lime cookies.
