Faruq and the Wiri Wiri by Sophie Payne and Sandhya Prabhat is fun book about a little boy who loves his Grandma and her delicious spicy cooking. He spends lots of time with her watching what she is making and asking questions about all the ingredients she uses and how it is all made. Faruq would like to be a cook when he grows up but his family want him to study medicine and be a doctor.
Grandma sends him into the garden to play but warns him to stay away from the Wiri Wiri bush as he kicks his foitball about it goes up into a tree and falls out into the Wiri Wiri bush. He pears into the bush asking out loud what is so special about this bush and he hears a little voice let me show you - he is very surprised and then sees its his Grandma's neighbour Mrs Joseph - she says they call the fruit cherry bombs because they are so spicy. As the lady taught his Grandma to cook she offers to teach him too. First they make cookies and the recipe for them is included in the book. I won't spoil what happens next but it's a lovely story.
