The busy colourful cover is very attractive and very inviting. And each fresh page explodes with interest and prompts questions. The layout varies between double page spread, single page, bordered pages and multiple illustrations. The text is presented in a variety of fonts, including serif and sans, cursive, type and block capitals, neat paragraphs, sound effects and speech bubbles, though it is always printed in black. The text and illustrations are nicely interwoven and help the story progress well, often leading off toward the next page. The front and end pages offer themselves toward games of finding, naming, counting and colour-matching.

I'm not sure how a child reader would handle the spellings in the dialogue but I certainly had fun trying to pronounce the words as written. I would have liked there to be a reference somewhere that Guyana is in the Caribbean as this ignorant grandma wrongly informed the children it is in Africa (Ghana, Guinea).
