Faruq and the wiri wiri is a really lovely young childrens story. The illustrations are really colourful and really help the story, there is so much to see on each page that can lead to discussions with those that can not read independently. I enjoyed the relationship between Faruq and his grandmother Adjee through cooking and food. Faruq loves to watch her cooking and dreams of being a chef himself but Adjee wants him to become a doctor like his father. When Adjee is ill one day and has to stay in bed Faruq decides to help out. With the help of his neighbour he manages to recreate her beautiful meals himself. This changes her opinion entirely on what his future may hold as he obviously has great talent. A very charming read about family and food. I really liked the inclusion of a Ghanaian recipe at the end of the story that you coud make together and share. We haven't tried to make them yet but my son is very keen to try them.
