This is a delightful, beautifully illustrated book to read with young people in a classroom setting or at home. It is the story of Faruq who lives in a multi generational Guyanese household. He enjoys spending time cooking with his grandma and learning about food and flavours. His father is a doctor and hopes he will follow in his footsteps but Faruq has other ideas. His grandma becomes unwell and Faruq needs the help of others to make food for his family.

I really liked the different sizes of text, the learning around cooking techniques such as stirring, sifting, boiling and baking which span all cultures of cuisine. I also liked the recipe at the back of the book for Easy Peasy Lime Cookies. They sound delicious!

A great blend of language, pictures and hands on cooking ideas and a springboard for learning about other ingredients and recipes.
