McCoy reminded me similarly of James McAvoy from Irvine Welsh's Filth.

Harry McCoy and Murray are called into investigate a case of a local footballing celebrity who has been butchered but they soon realise it's not an isolated incident as more bodies turn up.
McCoy is quite relatable as he is rather flawed. The 70's setting is set really well as we are dragged into a world of gangs, drink and drugs in a dark crime/thriller.

This is the second in a series, I haven't read the first one although I would say you don't need to read the first one to get to grips with the goings on in February's Son however I feel like I would have understood McCoy better had I read it.

What I particularly loved about this book was the gory description of the murders POV and the passages written in between the chapters which brought real grit to the novel.
