February`s Son is a story that I would describe as being `Gritty' and even `Grim'. This is because it is set in Glasgow in the early 1970 s when life could have been grim for many people. It is also grim because there is a murder of a promising young man very early on in the story, and not only is it a murder, but a very gruesome one at that.
The author soon gives us a clue as to who the murderer could be and the investigation that follows is the basis for the story. We soon get an idea of the sort of characters that are involved in the story , including local hard men and their families who make up the local community.
Even the detective on the case is not squeaky clean and he has had a troubled past which is also connected to the villains in the story.
