I personally could not get in to this story so I feel it is one where you would need to read the series from the beginning to understand what is happening.
The writing style was a little disjointed and did not help me engage with the story but I'm willing to accept that may be because I have not experienced any of the world building that probably occurred in book one.
I do really like the cover and would be willing to buy the first book to try based on the eye catching cover of this one.
