When I had a chance to read the first novel in this series I opted out after reading reviews which said the storyline was far-fetched, the detectives had the usual tired baggage and the twists were highly predictable. Aligning the novel with Sarah Hilary is one thing but Katerina Diamond and Robert Bryndza’s novels are a world away from Hilary’s classy, smart and gritty crime thrillers and is no way a helpful comparison.
Having read the First Impression I cannot say that I am inspired as I am not a fan off the whole “too cool for school” attitude, all trying a little too heard to appear edgy. Given that is is hard to intuit the atmosphere or potential direction of the story from such a short extract I feel pretty indifferent towards reading but on balance would be prepared to give it a go.
