This starts with a clunky explanation of the hierachy of the police department involved and following this scene setting the author takes that literally throughout the rest of the book when he appears determined to shoehorn in reference and mention to just about every major London landmark and borough which is so obvious and one part it reads as if he's driven around simply listing places like a small child on a sight seeing trip.

The plot itself is a clever, interesting one but it just requires too much explanation it loses momentum and pace.....add that to the good old formula of highly capable, steely female lead with troubled, mysterious background, ditto that for her minority deputy who adds a very lame suggestion of sexual chemistry with the gruff wisecracking detective, and the now obligatory tech genius, and Doctor who mellows her haughty stance to truly become one of the team and you just get a confusing messy ridiculous thriller.
