This is the second book featuring DCI Kate Riley and DS Zain Harris. I would have liked to have read the first book Cut to the Bone first as I don't like to read series out of sequence.
The story starts with the graphic description of a gruesome killing.
Then the body of a senior civil servant is found in St James Park after a demonstration. It is quickly discovered that deadly neurotoxins are responsible for this death and Kate and her team have to handle the investigation with all due care and secrecy to prevent publicity and widespread panic.
Kate and Zain also both have issues in their past which play a part in their decision making.
I loved this book although I must say that a glossary might have helped with all the abbreviations in the first few chapters!
I look forward to the sequel as Kate and Zain's lives have now become even more complicated.
