Five Little Penguins is a perfect picture book for younger children. The simplicity of the text and rhyming words would enable a young child to join in with the story and to understand it. The story is based on a well known song and has a poetic feel to it which makes it lovely to read aloud. The illustrations are detailed and beautiful. The lift up flaps make the images more interesting and engaging. They help children to identify different animals and the children seemed to enjoy discovering what was beneath the flaps. It is a lovely book to help children develop counting skills or to practise them. The images related to Christmas and winter make this book extra special. I would recommend this book is shared with children 5 years and under as it is fun, will encourage discovering different animals and help practise those early number skills.
