Beautifully Illustrated With Lots Of Sweet Details - A Wonderful Winter Gift
If you’re looking for a lovely, sweet book to read aloud to a toddler or young child then look no further; the beautiful illustrations and inclusion of many different sizes of flaps make this a lovely addition to any young reader’s library. It’s a very quick read so easy to fit into the busiest of bedtime schedules and sure to be a hit with any young animal lover.
The story inside is basically the ‘Five Little Ducks’ rhyme but edited slightly to make it fit for penguins instead. This works wonderfully though as it has the sort of rhyme and rhythm that will keep a child engaged and species wise fits into the festive season gloriously. Each of the flaps also have little snippets of text too to read aloud when discovered; many containing onomatopoeia which is another element I can see really helping children to engage.
The illustrations throughout this book are truly beautiful and there are some really sweet little details dotted throughout. Personally I love the little hats, gloves and earmuffs that the penguins are wrapped up in and several other animals that you spot along the way are similarly adorned. Other lovely, sweet details include Christmas decorations upon some of the trees and a family of beavers setting out stockings, milk and cookies for Santa. The flaps also seem fairly sturdy and are well attached so hopefully won’t end up damaged too easily by overly enthusiastic young readers.
Overall I definitely believe that ‘Five Little Penguins’ will make a wonderful gift to any young reader whose currently in the picture book stage of their reading.
