This is a beautifully illustrated book that appears to be an adapted version of the nursery rhyme "Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day". It tells the story of how a mummy penguin loses her five babies, one by one, but gets them all back by the end of the story. It's a "lift the flap" book so it's ideal for younger children.

Although the story is rather simple, the illustrations make up for it by showing the baby penguins playing in the snow, as we all know the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words." And if you didn't know it, you do now. I liked that there were other characters shown, not just penguins.

You do end up feeling sorry for the Mummy Penguin when all her babies had gone away but then she gets her babies back so all is well.

The book has a winter/Christmas theme to it which slightly restricts the audience for it. I wonder what lovely presents the penguins got come Christmas Day? A sled, perhaps, or some nice warm mittens? It wouldn't be gloves, because they don't actually have fingers. Perhaps some books as well!
