I wasn't sure what the children would think of Five Little Penguins but they absolutely loved it and we've read it so many times since we first received it.

The book follows the familiar rhyme of Five Little Ducks so it was a recognisable rhyme to the children. Rather than ducks though we follow penguins which makes it a lovely wintry read.

The words in the book are easy for the children to follow with the rhyming words and repetitiveness which makes it easy for the children to get involved and join in with the reading of the book.

The illustrations are beautiful and it's nice to see so many beautiful wintry scenes which we get to explore and this gives us a chance to see what kind of climate penguins live in. The children loved opening the flaps and looking to find the penguins. It's nice that there were other animals under these too as it added an element of excitement as they wondered if they'd find a penguin or something else! The children's favourite page was definitely the last couple of pages though, these got them very excited.

This is a great book for a fun story and to keep children engaged. It was popular both with the younger and older children and is also a great way to get the children counting and thinking about counting backwards from five. We loved this book and will be reading it many more times this Winter!
