This is a simply wonderful book for pre-school age children and perfect for the winter and Christmas season.
Using a familiar nursery rhyme the book tells the simple story of a mother penguin searching for her five little penguins. I was pleasantly surprised by how many flaps were included in this book for children to lift up and search under for the penguins. Each one had something new to discover underneath and combined with the stunning illustrations, the book is a treat to look at.
The book also encourages counting skills with a few prompts for children to see how many penguins they can find so adds an educational element subtly into the story.
I have to say that the book itself is brilliant quality too and feels nice to touch and play with. The pages are thick and glossy which are nice and tactile for little hands but also make them more robust. The flaps are nice and chunky too so easy to grab and open without assistance from a grown up.
This is clearly a very well thought out book that ticks so many boxes to make it a perfect seasonal read for little ones.
