Five Little Penguins by Lily Murray is the perfect book to include with the Christmas presents for very young children. It is recommended for children between two and six years although some five and six year olds might find it too young for them. Parents and carers will no doubt take into account the reading abilities of their children when choosing their Christmas book. Mamma Penguin takes her five children out to play in the snow and one by one she loses track of where they've gone while they're playing. Naturally, there is a happy ending when Mamma's children all turn up again. This is a great introduction to counting for the very little ones and they'll love the adorable penguins brilliantly illustrated by Holly Surplice. The penguins can all be found by lifting the flaps which is a great idea as young children love books with flaps. There are many other little animals hidden behind the flaps for the children to find. Five Little Penguins is definitely being included in my Christmas gifts to my great-nephew. He's three years old and I know he's going to love it. A book is an absolute essential in any child's Christmas stocking in the hope that at some point in the day the child will be happy to sit down and read, or be read to, for a little bit of quiet time.
