I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction, so it is unlikely I would have picked this up in a bookshop. Thank you then Reader's First for giving me a reason to read it, as I actually really enjoyed it. I liked that it was based on a true story and it was interesting to read the facts at the end which confirmed which parts were fact or fiction.
It is a real epic adventure following Jenny from her Cornwall home, her arrest for highway robbery, then her punishment; being transported across the sea to Australia as a convict and her subsequent escape. Jenny is a strong, likeable character and the most heartbreaking part is the loss of her family.
I can imagine this being made into a film - it has all the drama and emotion needed to make a brilliant film.
