I wouldn’t have picked this title had I been looking for a read in a bookstore. I am looking to expand my horizons when it comes to all aspects of reading ie genre, authors, writing styles etc and that I think is what drew me to this title. I am always intrigued by books that have one word titles, there are so many ways a single word can be interpreted and perceived so I am always eager to explore the angle of the author. There is a definite sense of classic prose to the style of writing and it’s descriptive vocabulary gives the reader an excellent foundation for the areas that require a little more imagination. Characterisation is clear, precise and relatable which is all you can ask for as a reader, the immediate connection you feel towards Jenny and her family is warming giving this a lovely opening to engage the reader. I shall definitely be exploring different pieces of a similar style in the future as I have been pleasantly surprised by this.
