This isn't my usual genre by a long shot but I thought the opening was really intriguing and charming. Poor grandma. What a bad mother! Owls! Plus the setting is brilliant - I loved the family story about the house being built. This reads as a little magic realist and feels (so far) a little bit like Skellig by David Almond. I'd definitely read this!
