This was a lovely book. I wanted it from the moment I read the first look and it didn't disappoint.
Set in a strange house in the mountains, one night during a storm a cherub flies into Cassie's bedroom window. She asks her friend to help look after it. But then strange creatures start to appear in the area and they have to protect the cherub from these big black birds.
Cassie's house and family are very strange, even her ancestors, who built extra floors and contraptions into an already odd structure on the top of a mountain.
It becomes apparent that the house holds secrets to why the cherub is there, and how to defeat the creatures coming for it.
But then there is an interesting twist in the tale, and it seems the cherub isn't the only person of interest. Cassie's friend isn't what he seems but had no idea of his heritage until the words of an old woman living in the forest uncover a well kept secret.
Great characters, great setting and a good twist in the tale. A really good debut from this author.
