Set with a backdrop of Bavaria, this story follows the events that unfurl after a Cherub blows in through Cassie Engel's bedroom window. She confides in her best friend Raphael, who appears to know more than he is letting on about the arrival of the cherub and what it means. Cassie then becomes the target for attack by strange birds with a putrid smell. The story is full of suspense and adventure as we follow Cassie and Raphael and uncover stories from the past and the effect that they are having on them in the present. As it unfolds, we have a wonderful twist at the end!

This had all of the feels of a gothic fairytale, with added suspense. The writing style was excellent and appropriate for an audience of tweenagers. I finished the book very quickly as I was hooked and couldn't put it down. I have already passed it on to my 10 year old daughter and recommend it to this age group up to around 14.

I've awarded 4 stars as although it was good, it wasn't amazing - I struggle to imagine the house - I felt the author could have done more to give us the imagery to set the scene.

Overall though, this was an enjoyable read.
