Magical yet not quite for me

Firstly the cover of the book really caught my eye, I was always a lover of all things owls, feathers, and the mystery magical vibe so this was an immediate must in my books.

The beginning really created the scene and quickly snatched my attention but after a short while, I grew tiresome of the characters and their behaviors. I felt for the main antagonist as her relationships within the family are strained by eccentric father, dismissive mother, and illness which made me really feel for her. After a while, it became more of a struggle to keep engaged and wanting to know more as I started to put the book down frequently and found it hard to delve straight back in. I think I struggled with the mentioning of taxidermist too but overall it's a very lovely book suited for younger readers and perfect for this time of year; Autumn / Fall and Halloween.
