First of all, I have to say that this really is a stunning debut novel. Lucy Hope writers creatively, imaginatively and passionately. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and would happily go back and re-read this novel.
I also really enjoyed the mix of fantasy and magic too. The story centres around things that seem like they are impossible but are in fact, possible. It shows us the loyalty of family, the love of friends and the stories of the past all help shape us as beings and thus, the characters in the novel too.
I found Cassie a wonderful protagonist and felt like she was a character that was explored well. She reads like someone I'd desperately want to be friends with also.
I loved the description of their house - all its quirks and charm. It was the perfect setting for this novel, without a doubt.
All in all, I loved this book and was genuinely sad when it was over. However, I do think there is scope here for a second novel - there's many questions that really need answering!
