Lucy Hope's first book is an absolute joy. Wonderfully descriptive of people, place and time, it pulled me in to an imagined yet totally believable story of family, friends, cherubs and angels...and owls.
Cassie an amazingly capable young woman, copes lovingly with her very strange family in the oddest house anyone could possibly imagine, an incredible feat of engineering at the top of a steep rockface in the Bratvian Forest.
Her best (only) friend is Raphael, a cobblers son from the village below. When something smashes against the glass of her window during a storm and she brings it inside to protect it, she finds it's not a bird as she thought, but a small damaged creature. The only person she tells is Raphael, and together they care for the little winged cherub. This is just the start of their often frightening adventure, so many twists and surprises I could hardly keep up!
