The first chapter of this book gives the reader a descriptive account of the realities of fighting ISIS, provoking many varied reactions in the reader. This personal account is shocking and the author doesn't spare the readers' sensibilities but describes the situation in all its gritty, horrifying reality. The author writes of her own experiences and many will admire her bravery although others might think her foolhardy. Most people will be aware of the situation in the Middle East from news reports or articles by journalists in papers and magazines however this account from a participant gives us a much more accurate insight into the true situation for those living in the country and fighting against ISIS. Those involved in the struggle against ISIS come from all society, young, old, men, women and people from many countries who believe these people should be able to live in freedom. The author writes that a friend of hers described Kobani as their Stalingrad and anyone who has read about the siege of Stalingrad will realise just how desperate their situation was. After just one chapter I am drawn into the author's story and looking forward to reading the rest of the book.
