Yep, Danny's Dead, dead and buried, but he has still to have the last word. It doesn't matter to him if that last word destroys people's lives it just matters that he has it. By leaving letters for his school friends he is opening up their shared history and their secrets to show that they really don't know each other at all.

The writing of this is gripping and drags you right in to The Crew. We know nothing about them yet, but there is a real sense of tension and expectation generated even this early on.

I have been bitten before by excellent opening chapters only for a book to then start to disappoint 50 pages in and completely irritate me after 100. This is a debut novel with a good premise and good writing so hopefully it will not follow what is becoming an all too familiar pattern.
