Less One of Us is Lying, more Janet and John! Writing fairly dry.

After loving One of Us Is Lying and Megan Abbott’s portrayals of adolescent female friendship, I opened the First Impression with high expectations... however from immature and selfish Danny’s opening rant to the dry narrative style I rapidly lost interest. It seemed hard to believe that The Crew are ten years on from leaving school as they all seemed pretty juvenile and superficial.

The shifting point of view is not my preferred style of reading but I can see how it might work well in an instance such as this, however I do wonder at just how many dark secrets can be revealed before it all becomes a tad far-fetched for my liking.

On a more positive note I always enjoy reading novels with a small town insularity and if the characters turn out to be more substantial and well-realised than at first glance this story might have promise.
